Exploring the world of cannabis edibles, singer Kelis to host a new cooking competition show

For some people, edibles only consist of gummies and chocolate candies. But the reality is that cannabis-infused cooking has inspired a whole new culinary tradition, as chefs learn how to incorporate strong, weed-y flavors into various cuisines.

Exploring that new world is the inspiration behind Cooked with Cannabis, a new Netflix cooking competition show hosted by singer and chef Kelis. Yes, she’s the brilliant woman behind that indelible “Milkshake” song we all know and love. Alongside co-host and Portland chef Leather Storrs, Kelis will judge contestants’ ability to craft culinary masterpieces using cannabis-infused ingredients.

“As a chef, I was intrigued by the food and as an everyday person, I was interested in how powerful this topic is in today’s society,” Kelis wrote in an Instagram post announcing the show. “In this country, many things have been used systematically to oppress groups of people, but this is so culturally important for us to learn and grow together.”

Similar to cooking shows like Chopped, each episode will feature three professional chefs who must complete a three-course meal with an instructed theme. That theme might range from “Danksgiving” to world cuisines, with the winning chef taking home $10,000. The meals will be rated by Kelis and Storrs, as well as a rotating panel of dinner guests who will have a say in crowning the champion.

The series will drop on 4/20—because, of course—and the first season will include six episodes. Guests announced for Cooked with Cannabis include rapper Too $hort, actress/comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub, and former talk show host Ricki Lake, who was also behind the documentary Weed the People.
