UPDATE: A man in his 20s has been arrested after a major drug bust in Rochester.
Detective Sergeant Barry Gray of Campaspe criminal investigation unit said police were going through the process of making the house safe and processing the scene.
DS Gray said it was too early to estimate the street value of the drugs.
“Once we deem the house safe, as there is a lot of electrical equipment in there, we will do a proper investigation and be in a position to say,” he said.
“It’s a large number of plants compared to other places we’ve seen and I would say a quite expensive set-up.
“We’re going through the throws of disassembly at the moment.”
EARLIER: HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars’ worth of cannabis has been found in a drug bust in Rochester this morning.
Detectives raided the Railway Rd home where they found an established hydroponic cannabis set-up inside the home.
“There were about 300 plants in various stages of growth,” Detective Sergeant Barry Gray of Campaspe criminal investigation unit said.
“It’s a significant find.
“We know this will make a difference and impact on people who grow it and those who shouldn’t be using it.”
DS Gray said the search warrant was the result of information from the public and and police intelligence.
“This is not a big problem in Rochester. It’s out-of-towners bringing ill will to the town,” he said.
DS Gray said a man was assisting police with inquiries.
More to come.
