Can LEDs grow plants?

Can LEDs grow plants?

Yes, LEDs can be used to grow plants.

LED stands for light-emitting diode, which is a type of lighting technology that has been increasingly popular due to its energy efficiency and long lifespan compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. In recent years, there have been advancements in horticultural lighting using LEDs specifically designed for plant growth. These specialized LED lights emit wavelengths of light essential for photosynthesis – chlorophyll absorption peaks at around 435 nm (blue) and 660 nm (red). As such, they can provide sufficient illumination necessary for healthy plant development without producing excessive heat like some other types of lighting sources might do.
